CAF Venturesome (Community Led Housing Fund)
A five-year fund, supporting the expansion of community-led housing projects in communities across England.
Why we funded this project
To provide funding to community groups looking to build affordable homes, including financial help in purchasing land.
Strategic purpose
Increased access to land and properties not currently used as homes and increasing the availability of finance at every stage.
Project description
The Community Led Housing Fund, led by CAF Venturesome and supported by the Nationwide Foundation, among other charities and benefactors, aims to provide financial support for around 1,000 new affordable homes built by the communities who need them.
The third of its kind, the fund pools resources and gives money to community groups providing new homes, helping them with loans, standby facilities and grants. As well providing support for the construction, an element of the fund also helps groups purchase land – a considerable barrier when trying to build homes in some communities.
Alongside the Nationwide Foundation, the CAF Venturesome Community Led Housing Fund is supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Power to Change, the Tudor Trust, CAF and several individual philanthropists.
As part of the launch of the fund, CAF Venturesome invited a guest panel to consider the importance of community-led housing, including our Chief Executive, Leigh Pearce. That blog is available here.
