The Nationwide Foundation has awarded funding of over £500,000 to two charities in Scotland to support the growth of community-led housing. The funding has been awarded to Dumfries and Galloway Small Communities Housing Trust (DGSCHT) and The Highlands Small Communities Housing Trust (HSCHT) which will both use it to offer the information, support, advice and technical expertise that is needed to progress a community-led housing scheme.
There is a growing appetite for community-led housing and more communities are mobilising to turn this into a reality, yet there is a desperate lack of support which can stall or even halt promising and much-needed projects.
HSCHT and DGSCHT will be ensuring that community groups can effectively and more easily deliver homes that are both decent and affordable and meet the needs of their communities.
These two projects have been funded under the Nationwide Foundation’s Backing Community-Led Housing programme.
