The Nationwide Foundation is delighted to announce that Kate Markey will be joining the organisation as its new CEO in early 2024.
Kate comes from a background in journalism, having been Editor of The Big Issue North for a number of years. She also has wide ranging experience in social enterprise, social investment and impact consulting. Kate has been CEO of the London Community Foundation for more than five years, connecting local philanthropy to communities in need. In 2019, she was named in the Evening Standard Progress 1000: London’s most influential philanthropic leaders.
Kate said: “The UK’s housing crisis is having a devastating impact on families and communities. I feel privileged to be joining a team and Board of Trustees so committed to tackling the crisis now and for the long-term, working strategically and collaboratively across the housing sector.”
Kate is joining the Nationwide Foundation at an important time, as housing continues to be a key issue. Significant investment, innovation and focus will be needed over the next decade to meet the demand for decent, affordable, secure homes in all four nations of the UK. The Nationwide Foundation works entirely in this space and has a distinctive and increasingly influential role.
Saphié Ashtiany, Chair of the Nationwide Foundation said: “Kate will be able to lead the development of our strategy, taking a long-term approach to influencing the conditions for systemic change in the housing sector both directly and with our partners including, in particular, the mutually important and valued relationship with Nationwide Building Society.”
